Happy Father's Day! I Miss You Dad........And Happy Father's Day To My Muffin!

It's Father's Day and I'm missing my dad..... It's been over 31 years since we've celebrated a Father's Day with him. My husband has never met him. That's so sad to me because they're a lot alike and would have been great friends, I'm sure.

This is a picture of my dad in Egypt during WWII. Wasn't he just the most handsome fella??? He actually got better looking with age and still had great muscles until the very end! HOLY COW!!! And, he NEVER exercised!

My dad was always teaching me something, but my favorite story is about honesty. You can TELL your children things all the time, but somehow it's the little things that really are embedded in their character. We were grocery shopping....not using a grocery cart, my dad was carrying everything. He paid. We got to the car and he realized he still had the bananas tucked under his arm. He didn't give me a speech about going back to pay. He just did it. I must have been about 6-7 at the time and I remember it as though it was yesterday.

And, this is my MUFFIN and my little guy.....I just had to get a shot of them that day. Every single time the little guy came my sweet hubby would take him outside, walk around and let him touch nature. Isn't that just soooo sweet??

As I've said, my DH isn't my daughter's father, but is ALWAYS there for her and for Brett. He never calls them "my wife's grandson" or my stepdaughter. He always calls them his. They love him so much! My sweetie was there, waiting with us, when my grandson was born and is always TOTALLY there for him now. Often, when my daughter and I go shopping, my hubbs cares for this little guy.....from the time he was a tiny baby!!! He's even kept him overnight when my daughter and I have gone to do something girlie....read: SHOPPING!!

He'll run and do ANYTHING for them. It's just amazing and makes my heart so happy! We are so blessed. My daughter's father loves them but just doesn't have the capacity to show them or be there for them and this wonderful fella has so taken up the slack and given them what they need.

I love you Muffin! I am so happy you belong to us!

You're just the BEST!

Kisses from the Missus.... (my standard signature) :-)

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Father's Day! And, if you've lost your sweet dad, my heart goes out to you and I'm sending you a big hug!

  3. What a lovely post. I lost my darling dad when I was just 27 and he was only 48. Still think about him all the time, he had such a great sense of humour! And I inherited his inability to get up in the mornings :o) Mums and Dads are to be cherished forever x

Blessings of joy to you today.
Oh my goodness what an impression the bananas made on me.
It is how we live that makes an impact on our children.
I do hope and pray that after I am gone I leave behind some banana reminders like your precious Dad.

  7. Hello my precious Spencer,
A beautiful post indeed and your husband seems like a wonder hunk of a man. I just love how you mentioned that your papa and husband share common traits; I think we women really do tend to go with men that have at least one paternal trait. Your daddy sounded like a gentle soul...I cry when I think of my papa. God bless you Spencer, have a marvelous day. Anita

  9. As I've said before you are one lucky girl! My father has been gone 32 years also. I grew up as a teen with a step-dad he was a good guy. I was really bad and didn't get any pics of my dad transfered to the computer, so maybe next time!
    Happy Father's Day!

    Hugs, Lisa

  15. What a lovely tribute to your father and husband, Spencer. Good men are, indeed, a treasure. Your dad must have been a very young man when he died. My dad just passed away 2 months ago at the age of 82, so I feel blessed to have had him in my life for so many years.

  21. Spencer the men in your life are very handsome and they seem like such nice men too. Aren't you lucky? Me too! My dad died when I was 30...so 31 years ago. I still miss him too. Mostly I am sad that he missed watching my kids grow up. I have a hubby like you...very good with kids and just rolls up his sleeves and jumps right in with their care.

  25. Hi Spencer....what a wonderful post about your father and your hubbie...two very special men...It's wonderful when you hear a stepfather being so involved in the life of their step children and you can see he adores that beautiful child....I think all grandpa's find any excuse to "babysit".....
