Happy Pink Saturday......I'm So Glad You're Here....

Good morning Sweet Chickies!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be asleep, I'm sure, if you're a happy, early girlie. It's 2:15 right now and I'm totally rummy, so I'll be sleeeeeeeeeeeeping late tomorrow.

I'm soooo hoping this is going to make any sense at all. I've been struggling all night trying to re-do my header for Christmas....and then there was the music. Oh my gosh that was frustrating. I wanted to put a skin behind it, but darned if I could figure out how to do it. I had one on my old Playlist, but nada....nothin'........zip.......here today. Maybe I'll try to address that once I'm awake!

Ok.......'nuf complaining.

Our wonderful Beverly had a wonderful idea for the next few weeks for Pink Saturday to celebrate Christmas. We can post any color and each week she assigned a special subject...

This week:
Childhood Memories

I think most of you know that Barbie is 50 this year, right? Well, when I was 9 years old the ONLY thing I wanted for Christmas was a Barbie. At that time they were only $3......wow, what a deal! :-)......because I had watched this commercial over and over....

Click right here to watch...it's quite different from today's commercials, that's for sure.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8-avPUxyno

Yep, I spent at least 30 minutes trying to do the little link thing again to no avail. How the heck do you girlies do that?

Anyway, being the little scout that I was, I made a beeline for the tree on Christmas morning. I knew the exact size box my new Barbie would be in.

I looked, and I looked and I looked..........NOTHING. Surely my wonderful Mummy would never disappoint me on Christmas? I did have lots of presents....I kept opening them...and opening........and opening.....no Barbie. Finally, I was to the last gift.....near tears. Heartbroken.

The box was way too big to be my Barbie.....I opened it and there, in the center of that box?....Sure enough...my Barbie....part of a very large set. It was Mix and Match Barbie with a lovely wardrobe. I remember she had an orange twin set and gray skirt...I think it had pants too.......and maybe jammies and some other things, including several pairs of shoes. Now, that was a REALLY big deal.

Sooooo..........Fifty Years ago and I can still clearly remember where the tree was and how thrilled I was to open that gift. :-) Ahhhh.....my wunnerful Mummy. :-)

I so wish I still had that Barbie. I have no idea what ever became to 'ol Mix and Match Barbie....but she gave me hours of enjoyment as a kid.....and even then I was designing homes for her.......and furniture.

Now......I'm just certain there are some REALLY wonderful stories from our Wonderful Pinkies out there.....

Just zip on over to see Miss Beverly.

Her link is missing off my sidebar since I had that disaster, but her blog is:

I'll bet we're in for lots of fun today.

Thanks so much for coming and for hanging in there with me.

Lovies and Huggies!

A Really Pooped Spence

  2. Oh dearest, you brought back so many memories for me! I had the same dolls and cloths that appear on that commercial! And like you, my mum was so generous with her time and little money that she had; but you know what I did? I would actually find the presents hidden in a closet weeks before Christmas and open them to take a peek! I was a naughty kid. Thank you for this darling post and don't worry, you are in good company when trying to do a trick on the blog.....these 50 something fingers make a lot of goof-ups....I am like King Midas in reverse when it comes to computers! I hope you have a great sleep! Bisous, Anita

  3. "You can tell it's Matel- it's swell!" Ha-ha!

I've never tried putting music on my blog because i can't listen to music and read at the same time. In other words- If you have music playing, I never hear it unless it's by accident!

When I've put a video in a post,I've used the add a video button. But I can't save it to draft, I have to post it immediately or else just put a link like you did. Links are just fine, through! ♥

  9. Oh, Spencer... such a sweet story! Loved reading this, and your sweeter than sweet Mum really surprising you with that Barbie! Awwww... I love her smiling face on your sidebar.

Get some rest, my friend, and we'll see you later!

You did well on your header. Looks great!

    Happy Pink Saturday...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

P.S. Spence, if you take a photo or copy a photo of some paper you like and save it in your Windows photo program (or wherever you save photos on your 'puter), then you can download that to be your header. You go to the page for layout, and remove what's there and then click to download the new header. First, though you check that little box that says to size it properly. That's important. then you download, then you hit save and go check it out to see if you like it. Be sure to download a HORIZONTAL pic. That works best. Love your Christmas header! Hope this helps. I am about the most techno-challenged person on earth, but sometimes it takes somebody like me to help... cause if I can do it, you can! LOL! Love u!)

  10. What a great memory of your Barbie doll. I can just imagine the complete joy in opening that last gift and seeing her in the box. I had Barbie dolls growing up. My mom has always been a seamstress and she would make clothes for our dolls. They are good memories!
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  11. Oh the joys that Miss Barbie would bring to all of us little girls. I used to get excited when my Mom would make all kinds of little outfits for her, right down to her hats and coats.
    Thanks for the wonderful memory!

  12. Spencer,
I hope you are still sleeping peacefully and all memories of computer frustrations have vanished into thin air! Ha! We can all relate..unfortunately.

I loved how your much-wanted Barbie was in a larger box! Oh, the emotional curve of sinking to the depths knowing your coveted gift was not to be...only to soar to new heights when it was EVEN BETTER and BIGGER than your expectations. Such a sweet story!

  22. Hi Spencer

Especially for you, I've done a tutorial on how to embed YouTube videos.

Hope it helps! And what did you do to lose all your links etc - can I help at all?

RE Barbies - always wanted one, never got one (I had Sindy and Tressy). I am trying hard not to be envious!

    Happy Pink Saturday.

  23. Great post, Spencer! I was 6 when Barbie came out and I very vividly remember my mother taking me to the store to buy one (which looked like the one pictured) and I got to pick one outfit. Oh decisions, decisions! I ended up with a yellow babydoll nightie set and it even had a little alarm clock! When my daughter was born I thought I was going to get to play with Barbie dolls again but alas, she never much cared for them. She was a horse-lovin' girl from very early on and was always more into "My Little Ponies." Go figure. :o

Wouldn't it be nice to go back and have a do over!? Your mummy was so smart to trick you and make you worry, what a surprise she must have been, AND well worth waiting for, Happy Pink Saturday, Char

I was so relieved when you found your Barbie in the last box. I got my first Barbie when I was nine, too. She was just like this one - but blonde. I still have several of my Barbies, my Midge and Ken.

    Happy Pink Saturday, Spencer.

  41. Hello Spencer, thanks for your visit. I hate you admit it but I was 22 years old when Barbie came out. I remember getting a life size doll when I about 6 or 7 but it was from a lovely neighbor gentleman who walked by my house everyday to work. He knew we probably would not get much so he got me a dolly.Blessings

  45. Spencer, that IS my Barbie in that picture you posted, and I know you won't be surprised to learn that I still have her - not sure where the swimsuit is, and her hair is not nearly as neat as it used to be, but I've got her, and I've got my pink Barbie clothes case too! Nope, I don't throw away anything! You brought back some fun memories of opening my Barbie on that Christmas morning years ago. It was the first year for Barbie, and every girl I knew got one. Now I'm going to click over to look at that commercial. Thanks for the memories! laurie
