Homemade Laundry Soap.....

Are you having a great weekend?

I'm catching up on a few little projects and waiting for the refrigerator repair dude. Why do they tell you noon when it's really going to be about six pm? Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I could have taken some photos today, while the sun is shining...... it's been pretty dark and dreary here.

I've shown pictures before of my little metal cabinet that sits right next to the fridge? Yeah, well.......it's FULL of extra dishes and serving bits. They are all over the table now so that I could empty the darn thing out and move it. Seems when you have a really cute PINK metal cabinet next to the fridge and said fridge leaks it causes a reaction........RUST. Thank goodness for my go to Whink Rust Remover.... That stuff is MAGIC.

Oooops, that was a slight detour... I'm like that. My BESTEST friend and I talked on the phone a little bit ago..... my phone has a timer..... TWO HOURS AND 58 MINUTES. Seriously, who can talk that long? I just listened. Seriously. Ok.........lying.

What I really wanted to share with you is this FAB.U.LOUS recipe for laundry soap.

I don't really know if it saves any money, but it's by FAR the best laundry soap I've EVAH used. The laundry is so soft and fluffy and smells DEEEE.LISH.

I have a front loader and I've used this potion for about a year with no ill effects. It really doesn't suds up....and I really wouldn't care if soap was pouring out the front of the darn washer..............ala I Love Lucy............just to have laundry this great. Just kidding, really.

It's as simple as can be.....

3 bars of Fels Naptha bar Laundry Soap (grated)
1 box (about 4#) of 20 Mule Team Borax
1 box (again, about 4#) of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda
1 box (4#, or so) of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
and about three-four big scoops of Oxy-Clean

That's it!

Easy Peasy.

Stir it all together and put it into an airtight container.

I use about 1/2 c. per load and I get really clean and bright laundry.

For a top loader you might need more, not too sure about that.

****I only use this potion on white/light laundry.... I switched to liquid detergent a long time ago for dark laundry. ............it always left a whitish residue.... ****

Have a great weekend....

I have all the bits ready for my giveaway!

I'm going to join White Wednesday next week.... (that's a little clue).... so y'all come on back........... hear?

xoxoxo

  1. Thanks so much, Spencer. There is a lot to be desired in the regular laundry soap. I am looking for something that can get out stains...how is this?

  2. Hi, Sweet Spencer ~
I saw that recipe before but haven't tried it. Oh, no!, rust on that pink cabinet, for pete's sake. This a disaster time. So this WHINK really works & the cupboard will be fine? I love that pretty pink beauty .. I LOVE your entire mansion!

We had a nor'easter go thru ... 4" of snow all day log. Happy dancing. Love that fluffy white heavenly stuff. The size of silver $$, it was awesome. Trees bowed to the ground, so elegantly decorated.

We just took out 100+ geraniums on Friday to pot & put in the garage under lights for the winter & mowed yesterday.

    Hugs to Chetster too.
    BOO-T-ful Halloween wishes ~

    Hugs & love,

  3. Hi Spencer,
I have one similar to yours and use it for all my laundry...and it's awesome! Yes, we do save $$$ when making it. I've made mine for a couple of years now and won't use anything else! I have a top loader and use less than a 1/4 c per load.
    Happy weekend.

  4. It is good laundry soap, and I'm so glad that you've had such good results using it.
I'm afraid it isn't very effective with my washing. Our water is all spring water, and it is very hard water. Far too many minerals in it.
Have a wonderful weekend, and I'll be green with envy that you get to use your wonderful home-made laundry soap :)

  6. Hi Spencer, well I know what you mean about talking... LuLu and I talked for 2 hrs. on the phone last week. I can talk to my girls for HOURS, no problem.
Now I've been wanting to make that soap for a longgggg time, but I cannot get some of those ingredients here in Canada. Especially the A&R washing soda, or that borax. DARN. If I did do it I would want it PINK and since I can't make ANY, I'll just look at everybody else's nice laundry soap.
My BFF Julie and sista Claudia are meeting in Seattle next weekend. I wish I could meet them, but we bury mom on Friday. You bet I would be there knocking on your door Miss Spencer. One day...

  8. This is the best laundry soap ever! I have been making it for a few years now and won't go back to buying it. My husband laughed at the first time I made it and now he's one of my helpers when I make it.
